The workshop will be hands-on, with participants working on pieces of their own making. We will start by transferring the image from the black/white photo to craft cellophane, and then onto the muslin backing. Participants will then begin building their collage portraits using scrap fabrics and Steam-A-Seam Lite2.
We will cover picking fabrics, using a color value finder, and working effectively with Steam-a-Seam. We will focus on eyes, noses and other critical features, along with choices on what to use fabric for vs. what to use thread painting and quilting for. We will cover how to bond the appliqué for the backing fabric, and then how to plan and execute the quilting and thread painting.
Note: appliqué portraiture is time-consuming, so some participants may not finish their projects in the workshop. But all will have the skills they need to complete their portrait at their own pace.
